2011 Expedition Locations Announced

Land Rover is currently in the process of finalising the 2011 Expeditions destinations. Plans include a four day event in Catalonia in late spring and a more extreme adventure in Botswana’s Okavango Delta in late autumn.

These luxurious driving experiences enable guests to indulge in the stunning scenery, landscapes and culture in the finest style. Further information including dates and costs are due to be released at the end of October.

Expedition underway!

The 2010 Land Rover Expedition to Morocco is now fully booked and in progress. Each event lasts a week, and guests travel on an exciting route from Marrakesh to the Essaouira on the west coast to experience beach driving on the vast expanses of sand. The event builds up to a crossing of the High Atlas Mountains, and then returns to Marrakesh for some well earned rest. Some guest photos are available via our Flickr stream (click on any of the images on the right hand side of the screen) or via the Land Rover Experience Facebook page.

Expedition recce: 18th Feb

“We are back in Taroudant – there has been even more rain, floods, snow and many of the bridges are now washed away, but it wouldn’t be a real expedition without an element of challenge! We tried five different routes to get out of the city but we didn’t manage to reach the other side of the Atlas. First we encountered flooded rivers which were impassible and then a landslide prevented us from leaving Taroudant! I’m confident these unusual conditions will have passed by May, and we’re looking forward to welcoming the guests to this spectacular country.”

“It’s currently very cloudy but during the spring the views from here will be spectacular. We’ve found a great spot for a coffee and refreshment break which will be a great photo opportunity. The route we’ve chosen includes some river crossings, hopefully in May they will be less water but this week I couldn’t cross several of them! This will be the last day of driving during the expedition, which will end with a tricky off-road passage through a very narrow canyon.

A lot of rain has fallen, and the forecast for the next week doesn’t show any improvement. Despite the snow we successfully crossed the Atlas trough the Tizin Test pass, 2100 metres high with a mixture of on and off-road routes.”

Expedition recce:10th Feb

The expedition recce team is currently in Morocco fine tuning the on and off-road routes. Below are some notes from expedition leader Moi Torrallardona’s journal:

“Today we have been traveling from Marrakech to Essaouira – the weather has created various challenges along the way, with snow and heavy rain. Many of the rivers are flooded and we’ve heard some of the smaller mountain roads are impassable which will add some excitement later in the week! Currently the temperature is about 20 degrees Celsius in Essaouira, slightly colder in Marrakech – the weather should dramatically improve before the Expedition so we do not see the conditions as an issue. Tomorrow we will attempt to cross the High Atlas via a challenging route called the Tizin Test”
